Role Overview
As a Fire Alarm Systems Service Technician, you will respond to service requests, diagnose issues on-site, perform repairs, maintenance, and system testing for electronic fire alarm systems. You’ll work with equipment from leading manufacturers, with a strong emphasis on Simplex systems, while also supporting security, access control, and related low-voltage infrastructure.
This position combines technical expertise, customer interaction, and occasional after-hours support to keep buildings safe and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and respond to service calls from the Service Resource Center, then perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm panels, devices, low-voltage circuits, and related systems using technical manuals, diagrams, and manufacturer resources.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, submittals, and product manuals to complete installations, upgrades, and modifications accurately.
- Program fire alarm, security, and access control panels; experience with CCTV, IT, and IP networks is highly valued.
- Complete all service documentation digitally, including Service Acknowledgements with accurate coding and customer sign-offs via mobile devices.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when needed to meet customer demands.
- Mentor team members, identify system inefficiencies, and recommend solutions or upgrades to optimize facility performance.
- Maintain vehicle inventory and adhere to all safety protocols while working in various environments.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications:
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with fire alarm systems and low-voltage equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Solid computer skills and familiarity with mobile technology for documentation.
- Physical fitness to lift 50-70 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding up to 40 feet, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Flexibility for varied shifts, weekends, overnight travel, and on-call duties.
- Current National, State, or Local licenses and certifications as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET II certification (strongly preferred).
- Experience programming fire alarm, security, and access control systems.
- Background in CCTV, IT networking, or IP-based systems.
