Post: Security Officer Armed - Security
Job Location: Canton, United States
Christus Health
Job Description
Here's a more thoroughly reworked version I changed the structure, grouped things differently, and varied the sentence rhythm:
Armed Security Officer — Canton
Hospitals need a steady, visible presence to keep patients, staff, and visitors safe that's what this role is about. You'll patrol buildings and grounds, watch for anything out of place, and step in fast when something happens, whether that's an emergency code, a disaster event, or a routine incident that needs investigating. This is a uniformed position (CHRISTUS-approved attire only, dress code applies), and you should expect some flexibility in scheduling, including possible rotation across different facilities.
What the day-to-day looks like:
Patrols are the backbone of the job walking the grounds, checking buildings, staying alert to trends that might point to bigger security issues and flagging them up the chain. When something happens, you'll write it up: clear, factual, no personal opinion, submitted before your shift ends.
You're often the first point of contact for requests coming in by radio, phone, email, or in person, so quick and courteous response matters. Other regular tasks include:
Handling lost-and-found and patient valuables per policy
Enforcing hospital rules and relevant state law
Managing parking issues patrols, citations, towing when necessary
Backing up clinical staff during encounters with combative patients or visitors
Running the paging system, security radios, CCTV/NVR monitors, and attendant console
Logging daily reports and correspondence electronically
Catching safety hazards during rounds — bad wiring, broken sprinklers, gas smells, trip hazards
You'll need working knowledge of your equipment (handgun, cuffs, baton, radio) and non-crisis intervention techniques, since the job comes with real physical and emotional demands: tense situations, occasional hazardous conditions (fire, spills, flooding), long stretches on your feet in all kinds of weather, and the physical capability to restrain someone or help lift a patient if needed.
Above all stay alert, communicate well, think fast under pressure, and manage several things at once without losing your cool.
What you'll need:
A high school diploma is the baseline. Two years of armed security experience is preferred (military service counts too), and any background in law enforcement or healthcare security is a plus.
Certifications and clearances required:
Verbal de-escalation and BLS, both within 60 days of hire
Baton, defensive tactics, firearms, and weapon retention training completed before you're authorized to carry
A full psychological and background screening MMPI-2-RF-PCIR, CPI, PPSSR, PEI, plus a clinical interview
Random drug testing
Valid driver's license with a clean record (max one moving violation or at-fault accident in 12 months)
A few state-specific notes:
Texas Active Level 3 TDPSPSB commission required. If your TOPS status is active but your card hasn't arrived yet, carry proof of active status while working.
New Mexico / Louisiana 40 hours of training plus written sign-off from the CHRISTUS VP of Security before you can carry your assigned weapon.
All certifications must stay current per CHRISTUS Health policy.
