Overview
CHRISTUS Health is seeking a dedicated Armed Security Officer to help maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property. In this role, you will patrol assigned areas, respond to security incidents, investigate concerns, and assist during emergency situations while delivering professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols of hospital buildings, parking areas, and surrounding property.
- Monitor for suspicious activity, safety hazards, and security risks.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, incidents, and disaster situations.
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports before the end of each shift.
- Enforce hospital policies, procedures, and applicable state laws.
- Assist medical staff with disruptive or combative patients and visitors.
- Monitor CCTV systems, security alarms, radios, and paging systems.
- Manage parking enforcement, issue citations, and coordinate vehicle towing when required.
- Secure lost-and-found items and patient valuables according to hospital policy.
- Identify and report safety concerns, including fire hazards, gas leaks, damaged equipment, or other potential risks.
- Operate security equipment, including radios, handcuffs, batons, and approved firearms.
- Maintain professionalism while working in physically and emotionally demanding situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of armed security experience preferred.
- Military, law enforcement, or healthcare security experience is considered an advantage.
- Excellent communication, observation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to remain calm and act effectively during emergencies.
- Capable of standing, walking, lifting, and performing physical security duties throughout the shift.
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
- Verbal De-escalation training within 60 days of hire.
- Firearms qualification, defensive tactics, baton certification, and weapon retention training before carrying a firearm.
- Successful completion of required psychological evaluations, background investigation, and random drug screening.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
State Requirements
Texas
- Active Level III TDPSPSB Security Commission required.
- Officers with active TOPS status may work while carrying proof of active status until their commission card is received.
New Mexico & Louisiana
- Completion of 40 hours of required training.
- Written authorization from the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security before carrying an assigned firearm.
All required certifications and licenses must remain active throughout employment.
